Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the series E-1027 + 123, focused on the villa E-1027 designed by Eileen Gray and Jean Badovici in the 1920s, presented at Les Rencontres d’Arles 2025, this book brings together the complete body of this large-format series, accompanied by a text by art historian Nathalie Herschdorfer.
From the construction sites of Berlin to the housing developments built by Fernand Pouillon in Algiers in the 1950s, Stéphane Couturier’s work rethinks the relationship to photography as a medium and its purported objectivity. By combining multiple shots, the artist creates photographic constructions rich in forms and colors — verging on abstraction while maintaining a strong documentary foundation — thus shaping a new visual architecture.
