Messico 35/56
Josef and Anni Albers began their travels to Mexico in 1935, attracted by a country that was very different from the United States. They were not looking for exoticism but instead for traces of ancient pre-Columbian civilisations (the Maya and the Aztecs) and to experience the day-to-day life of a very poor but lively population. Dressed in dark colours and wearing a large black hat, Albers was a non-professional photographer with an architect's eye, as evidenced by the great sense of composition and a certain taste for geometry conjured up through his work, even through millennia-old archaeological finds.
