To celebrate the opening of its new Barcelona store, designed by Cobalto Studio (Gabriel Escamez), Sessùn pursues its itinerant exhibition project, named Creative Flowering.
To this effect, we invited five talented craftsmen and designers to create unique pieces highlighting the medium of wood: Benjamin Fely, Léa Laborie, Laura Greindl, Laure Amoros and Eloi Schultz.
LÉA LABORIE, Sculpture « Le dos de la cuillère / The back of the spoon »
Passionate about wood, a material she discovered while studying the craft of organ building, Léa Laborie creates organic tableware from her workshop in Marseille. Sensitive to ecological issues, she uses wood scraps - walnut, olive ash, oak... - which she upcycles with talent.
For our Creative Flowering carte blanche, Léa Laborie designed four decorative spoons, two in burr oak and two in walnut. A new step in her creative process.
BENJAMIN FELY, « EZ » pedestal table
His earliest memories of wood go back to his childhood, when he would collect pieces of wood during his walks in the Limousin region and tinker with them for hours on end. After a first life in the contemporary art world, Benjamin Fély returned to his love of wood and opened his workshop in Nantes in 2017.
For Creative Flowering, he designed a pedestal table inspired by a dolmen, a utilitarian sculpture with a precarious balance that calls out to be touched.
OROS « Objet mural Tracés 01 » hooks
Growing up in a family of craftsmen, between a cabinetmaker father and a ceramist mother, it was only natural for Laure Amoros to develop a passion for form and material. In 2016, she founded the OROS publishing house, with the aim of enhancing the value of wood within the creative industry. Bringing together French artisans that she met and fell in love with, she publishes handcrafted, local and reasoned creations, always fashioned in France with precious know-how.
For Floraison Créative, she has designed six wall sculptures with organic lines, each celebrating the law of chance.
ELOI SCHULTZ, Sculpture « Grande Forme »
Trained as an architect, Eloi Schultz followed his intuition by enrolling in a cabinetmaking vocational training certificate (CAP) in 2015. His love affair with atelier work and materials was immediate.
For our Creative Flowering carte blanche, Eloi Schultz designed a sculpture made from three pieces of oak, carved and assembled together using a traditional carpentry technique. An object that questions the relationship between human beings and their environment.
ATELIER 365, « Seating Exercises » Chairs
After studying furniture design and interior architecture, Laura Greindl founded Atelier 365 in Brussels, a hybrid, collaborative project between a traditional cabinetmaking school and a furniture workshop.
For Creative Flowering, she imagined three seats created instinctively from off-cuts of solid wood, and assembled using traditional cabinetmaking techniques.
With Creative Flowering, Sessùn continues to forge its own path, guided by its love of materials, craftsmanship and know-how.
An exhibition to discover from June 15 to September 1, 2023.
