our fabrics

At Sessùn, fabrics are part of our history, part of our DNA. It is often these fabrics that give birth to an idea, a model, a story. They tell a story of expertise and a love for clothing... and we choose them with the greatest care.

Today our duty is to ask ourselves about the impacts of these choices and to be able to justify each direction that is taken.

natural materials

These are materials that we love, for their unique properties and incomparable feel. Whether cotton, wool or linen, they are not only chosen for their durability and excellent qualities, but also because, when cultivated with respect for animals and nature, they are renewable resources, something that we encourage.

artificial materials

Obtained from processed natural resources, particularly liquids, they produce fabrics that drape beautifully. Often made of wood pulp, they can acquire certain labels, as is the case with EcoVero viscose, to guarantee their traceability and the sustainability of the farms, or they may come from FSC-certified forests that guarantee their sustainable management. We give preference to those with the lowest environmental impact and are increasing the proportion of these materials used in each collection, with a view to reaching the point that it is only these that are used.

synthetic materials

These are some of the most polluting materials. They are produced by processing oil and are complex to recycle. Nevertheless, they have very interesting properties in terms of flexibility, comfort and durability.
In order not to contribute to the production of waste and the depletion of resources, we have chosen to reduce the proportion of synthetic materials in our collections and, when we use them, to favour their recycled or labelled alternatives. Following the example of Repreve, which is a fibre obtained entirely from used plastic bottles that are transformed for reuse into recycled polyester yarn.

taking it further...

OEKO-TEX®

The REACH legislation is a regulation that obliges products being sold within the European Union not to contain certain chemical substances (such as chromium VI for example) below a set threshold. The list of these products is enriched from year to year, depending on the harmfulness studies carried out and the discoveries made. REACH thus makes it possible to ensure that substances shown to be harmful or at risk are not present in quantity in articles. Each of our suppliers makes a commitment to us to ensure compliance with these standards and we regularly conduct random tests to verify their compliance.

We also wish to take the requirement further, which is why we have initiated a certification process for some of our products according to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.

This label is based on a voluntary approach and sets higher requirements as well as a larger list of monitored or banned products. It ultimately guarantees the absence of toxic residues and the harmlessness of the certified articles. They now represent 36% of our textile collection and we aim to increase the share of these products year after year.

leathers & tanning

The question of leather treatment is also a subject that concerns us, knowing how harmful the products used can be, both for those who work on the material, those who wear it and the environment as a whole.

This is why we choose to opt as much as possible for vegetable tanning, which excludes chemical or toxic additives, replacing them with tannins extracted from plants, such as bark, wood, seeds or plants. The leathers are tanned through maceration and the colors are obtained by using specific natural varieties. The material obtained will develop a patina over time and its color will evolve naturally. This season, almost 20% of our leather products are processed in this way.

However, as the technique does not totally guarantee the harmlessness of the material and the good working conditions and environmental management, we have decided to join the Leather Working Group in order to work as much as possible with certified tanneries. This season, LWG leathers represent over 78% of our supply and we are committed to having them cover all our products by 2026.

labelled fibers

EcoVero viscose. It is a fully traceable fibre that optimises the use of resources and pollutes much less than traditional viscose. The wood from which the pulp is extracted comes from sustainably managed plantations, the production process does not generate toxic waste and its water consumption is reduced.

Merino wool is certified "no mulesing". Many breeders use a technique of ablation on sheep to facilitate shearing.Providing us with 100% certified merino wool, even if it is complex, allows us to ensure that we respect animal welfare and do not condone these practices.

Repreve, labelled recycled polyester. Obtained only by collecting used plastics, especially bottles, and through a water and energy-saving process, Repreve is one of the most successful and transparent alternatives to traditional polyester, while offering a high quality fibre.

our label products

At Sessùn, we sow our seeds in ways that align with our commitments and desire to work daily towards better production methods with respect for and awareness of our responsibility.

We have developed a series of icons to make it easier to identify key information about each of our products.

A garment is first of all a material, which will adorn the body, and evolve over time. The notion of clothing that wears well with age is very dear to Sessùn. Passionate about materials, Sessùn is committed to promoting the ancestral ‘know-how’ and craft skills that shape and colour many of its pieces. The brand embraces natural materials whose origins tell stories.
